Abby Vandenbrink is a technician at Davidson's Jewellers, a high end store in Chicago. She learned the trade from her maternal grandfather, who still owns his old world jewelry store in the Diamond District in Antwerp, that store which is the closest thing she ever felt as a physical home in being a military brat. She aspires to be a designer like her grandfather, although she is caught in a Catch-22 with her self-absorbed boss Nadia Davidson, who admires her sketches but will not even entertain selling her product without she having yet made a name for herself and she not having the money on her own to turn those designs into actual product to make that name. Abby makes an emergency extended trip back to Antwerp upon learning from the bank that her recently widowed grandfather is in substantial arrears on a loan, he never the businessman in the business affairs always handled by her grandmother. Abby discovers that while charming, the store is losing business to its main competitor, Remy + Sons which has gone modern in their business, Pieter Remy and her grandfather who have long been arch enemies. Her trip coincides with the annual Antwerp Diamond Festival, the grand prize for winning the design competition which would cover the loan, it which of late which has been won by Remy. Abby learns from her grandfather that he doesn't have the energy to deal with the business issues and enter the design competition as well, he leaving the competition to her. In the process, she meets Alexander Remy, the only "Son" working in his family's business. While the business mind behind the recent upgrades at Remy, Alexander can admit that he didn't inherit the creative design gene. Regardless, his father has assigned the design for the competition to him this year. Getting over their initial animosity, Abby and Alexander believe they can help the other, Alexander with the business issues at Vandenbrinks, and Abby with getting Alexander to tap into his hidden creative side, all done on the QT as no one in either of their families would consent to them even being acquaintances. In the process, they start to fall for each other. Their path to a happily-ever-after is threatened by others working behind the scenes to capitalize on winning the design competition.
