He has shown that in his previous film, I’m No Longer Here (2019), and he does it again in I Don’t Expect Anyone to Believe Me, a violent cop film that is also a comedy, sometimes a romantic film (in its own way), and other times, a screwball, but which is always eager to laugh at its own time. Juan Pablo is a literature student who has just won a scholarship in Barcelona, but before leaving Mexico, he sees himself involved in some business with a drug cartel that forces him to fulfill a “request” in Spain. The director uses that modern, mysterious Babel that is the Catalonian city so that his characters are always lost in a maze from which there might be no way out, not even through its upper part.
